Edith Sophie Peterson (“Edie”) died July 18, 2012 at age 92 from heart failure. Edie was born in Bisbee, North Dakota October 24, 1919. She was preceded in death by all of her 7 siblings and by her spouse of 55 years, Robert J. Peterson.
Edie was a longtime parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem where she was a member of the Alter Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She retired in 1980 from a career with the Salem Schools Food Service.
She recently completed and published her autobiography “Edie’s Story” describing the hardship and challenges growing up in a small farm community, one of 8 children left to be raised by a single mother whose husband had died in the midst of the Great Depression.
She is survived by a daughter, Roberta Williams (Robert) of Bakersfield, CA and a son, John Peterson (Connie), of Hillsboro, OR and by 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
The family suggests contributions to St. Vincent’s de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Alter Society or Hospice of Marion County.
