Dorothy was born in Quay, Oklahoma on June 27, 1926 to Maude and Ira Wilson Collins. Raised and educated in Oklahoma, she attended beauty school and became a beautician. In 1949, “Dort” moved to Oregon, where she worked and taught cosmetology for 30 years. She was a long time resident of Sweet Home before moving back to Oklahoma in 2004.
She loved canning, crochet, flowers and gardening, her family, fishing, clam chowder, shopping, scratch off lottos, cucumber and mayonnaise sandwiches. She also loved to laugh, and her bright smile will always be remembered and forever missed. Dorothy was loved and touched by everyone who knew her.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her father Ira Wilson Collins; her mother Maude Collins; sister-in-law Margie Collins; brother Walter “Dude” Collins; nephew Scott Collins and brother-in-law Ron Blacklaw. She is survived by her husband, Orville Forister; loving daughters Jimmie Banta (Jim) of Halsey, OR; Rev. Dr. Carolyn Forister-Chemel (David) of Rapid City, SD; Katherine Keller (Don) of Annapolis, MD; Jeanette Westlund of Oklahoma City, OK; sister Dee Blacklaw of Albany, OR; brother Floyd “Bodie” Collins (Virginia) of Glenwood Springs, CO; grandchildren Don Harris, Jennifer Kroll, Shawn Lindley, David Banta, Theresa Misner, Navy MU3 Joshua Keller, Navy ENS Adam Keller, Sarah Keller, Christopher Chemel, Navy ATAN Amanda Chemel; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews Jodie Adams, Dena Burian Blacklaw, Mike Collins, Dan Collins, Janet Balcomb, Bill Collins and Jerry Collins.
A graveside service will be held in Sweet Home, Oregon at Gilliland Cemetery on October 20 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
