September 9, 1922 – May 21, 2022
Don Feathers went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Salem, Oregon.
Born September 9, 1922 in Oakland, California, he was the only child of the late David and Lauretta (Rischard) Feathers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jean Eleanor (Stuart) Feathers and their son, David Feathers.
He is survived by his two daughters: Judith Maguire married to Henry Maguire of Leawood, Kansas and Susan Bergquist, married to Larry Bergquist of Silverton, Oregon, and four granddaughters: Andrea, Dana, Beka and Holly and two grandsons: Todd and Greg.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 3, 1942 to February 4, 1946, and the U.S. Air Force from February 5, 1946 to February 4, 1949. Following his service in the military Don worked as a civilian employee at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, first as an aircraft mechanic, then a production specialist and later a ‘planner and estimator’. He retired on May 31, 1971.
Don lived with his family in Oakland, San Lorenzo, Alamo and Arnold, California. He and Jean moved to Salem, Oregon in 2004.
Don enjoyed traveling with his family – camping trips all over the western United States (especially Yosemite National Park). After their children were grown, he and Jean traveled around the country in their RV and also enjoyed cruises and tours throughout the world. Jean loved to journal about each trip and her writings renewed many happy memories as Don and his family read through them. At home, Don loved playing golf and listening to music.
He had a quiet but strong faith in the Lord and served in many lay ministries in the church. He especially enjoyed and was gifted at lay reading.
He was, quite simply, a good person: kind, compassionate, generous.
A funeral will be held on June 18th at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Salem.
