Carol Swan, née Klecker, was 93 when she passed away. She is survived by all of her five children (Kathy, Michael (Diane), Maureen, Kevin (Lynn), and Tim (Eun-young) Swan), four grandchildren (Ryan Swan, Caitlin Clark (Phil), Nick Swan, and Hallie Swan (Alex Neier)), three great-grandchildren (Zeph, Ellie, and Alfie Clark), one of her sisters (Kristine Jacoby) and one of her brothers (Jeff Klecker), and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Carol was born in Mill City to Edmund and Marion Klecker, and lived in the Salem and Stayton area for nearly her entire life.
She was a cracking good student who was even skipped ahead a year in elementary school. She attended, and always thought fondly of, Willamette University, earning a degree in Chemistry.
There, she met her husband, Dorland, and they wed, eventually having those five children. They were married for fifty-nine years before Dorland's passing in 2010.
She spent many years working in laboratories, including at Salem Hospital, as a medical technologist.
She was an excellent baker, an award-winning quilter, and an insatiable consumer of books. She also played the piano, and if there were frustrations with getting the right notes now and then, she also played with real enjoyment learned at the knee of her beloved grandmother and piano teacher, Hallie Hortense Millsap. Classical music was a great love of hers.
She will be warmly remembered and greatly missed.
Donations may be made in Carol's name to the Salem Public Library.
