Dr. Roberta Kalechofsky of Marblehead, MA entered into rest on April 5, 2022 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of Robert for 67 years. Devoted mother of Hal and Neal and his wife Patty. Cherished grandmother of Adrienne, Adam, Alexa, Zev, and Nikash.
Roberta was born to Naomi Jacobs and Julius Joseph Kirchik in 1931, and grew up during the Depression in Brooklyn. She made her career as an academic and writer, and eventually became a professor of English. She was best known as a small press publisher and an author of books ranging from historical fiction to a wonderfully original vegetarian Passover Haggadah and various cookbooks. She was a passionate advocate of animal rights, a founder of MicahBooks and Jews for Animal Rights, and a world traveler. She loved Marblehead, especially yoga at the JCC and walking on Preston Beach with Robert (Kal).
The Kalechofsky Family would like to extend their thanks to the Chelsea Jewish and All Care organizations that gave Roberta the very best of care.
A graveside funeral service for Roberta will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Farband Cemetery, 16 Buxton Road, Danvers, MA 01923. Please use Cemetery Road Entrance off of Route 114. The funeral service will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to All Care Hospice or to either the JNF Plant A Tree Fund or PETA, both causes in which Roberta believed fiercely.
