Rita Phyllis Benjamin of Peabody, Massachusetts entered into rest on November 30, 2020 at the age of 86. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert M. Benjamin, loving companion of the late Walter Simpkins, devoted mother of David, Eric, Linda (Klain), and Susan Benjamin, adored mother-in-law of Kimberly Benjamin, cherished grandmother of Katie, Tess and Jade Klain, and dear daughter of the late Frances and Solomon Greenberg, DDS.
Rita was born and raised in New York, NY and graduated from Pratt Institute. She raised her family in Peabody, MA and was a dedicated homemaker. She also worked for many years in Salem with a social services agency and was a devoted lifetime member of Hadassah. She spent summers in Ogunquit, Maine walking the Marginal Way and winters in Delray Beach, Florida visiting the Wakodahatchee Wetlands and watching the boats on the Intracoastal Waterway.
She appreciated nature, enjoyed knitting and sewing, playing piano, writing poems, and baking, but her true passion was square dancing and folk dancing as well as folk music, and she often volunteered at local coffee houses. At home in Massachusetts, she took pleasure in visiting the ducks at the Peabody Institute Library pond and displaying her framed poetry in the West Peabody branch public library. She cherished her time spent with family and friends and had an unending sense of humor which she shared with everyone she met. We were blessed to have Rita in our lives for so many years and she will be greatly missed.
Due to regulations imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, a private graveside service will be held at Pride of Lynn Cemetery. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund or the Alzheimers Association. Marginal Way Preservation Fund is PO Box 1455 Ogunquit, Maine 03907. Alzheimers Association is 225 N Michigan Ave, Fl 17, Chicago IL
