Elizabeth Jeannette (Levin) Brown, known to all as Betty, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021 at age 95. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Jacob. Those Betty leaves behind are her sons Louis & Robert, daughter in laws Debbie Friedlander and Jodi Abbott, and grandsons Aaron & Evan. She also leaves her brother & sister-in-law Harold & Carol Levin and her many beloved nieces and nephews and their children; Elizabeth Brown; Marc, Amy, Bryan & Olive Brown; Debbie, Howard, Zachary, Hannah & Natalie Needle; Stephanie, Eddie & Willow Kaminsky, Errol & Alana Koenig; Suzanne, Larry, Esther, Archie & Eli Glazer; and Jessica, Alan, Aaron & Benjamin Martinez.
Though born in Erie, PA, Betty was a proud Bostonian, raised in Mattapan, a graduate of Girls Latin School and Boston University. After college, she had a career as a bookkeeper (while sneaking out to daytime Red Sox games). Betty met Jake while visiting her Aunts and Uncles in Erie PA, where they married and raised their family, and where she again employed her bookkeeping skills for their family furniture store. Betty was devoted to her community and was deeply involved in her Temple, the Brith Sholom Jewish Center.
She treasured her memories of happy times spent with her cousins in Green Hill and at numerous family celebrations, as well as shopping trips to Filenes Basement followed by ice cream sundaes at Brighams. Green Hill was always at her center, a strong magnet drawing her back to her most contented place.
Eventually she came full circle as she and Jake moved to Green Hill in 2010, where they lived until having to go into assisted living.
Betty was a wonderful cook and baker and always kept fresh treats ready for any who might stop by. She kept her family warm with her love and close attention, as well as with knitted hats and scarves, sweaters and blankets. She adored her grandsons and her love has helped define their lives.
In lieu of flowers donations to Temple Brith Sholom in Erie Pa in honor of Betty’s life would be lovely.
