Beloved husband of Kathleen Madden Rockamann; proud father of Matthew (still looking), Allison (Tim) Dudash, Molly (available), and Courtney Rockamann (also available); adoring Papa of Marie, Luke, Kyle, and Andrew Dudash; loyal brother of Rita (Al) Haines, Randy (Sue and the late Debby) Rockamann, Roseanne (Tim) Simmons; dear brother-in-law of Sharon, Michael (Ann) Madden, and Maureen (the late Doug) Roth; and special uncle, cousin, and friend to so many.
Ralph was a North County boy, proud of his Ferguson roots. He never forgot where he was from. Although his residence changed, his heart remained. Oldest son of Ralph Sr. and Ruth, he attended Sts. John and James where he met his lifelong best friend John Olmsted. He attended McCluer (Class of ‘68), and during his high school years spent many a night at the Starlight Ballroom where he first met and danced with the woman who would capture his heart, Kathleen Madden.
Ralph started working at a very young age, from stringing tennis rackets to delivering papers. He worked hard all his life, as he always wanted to be productive! Following high school, Ralph and two partners opened Sportsprint, a sporting goods, screenprinting and embroidery company. Fusing his love of sports and sales, Sportsprint was a true family business built on relationships and integrity that Ralph led for more than 43 years. Ralph was an avid sports fan, with many of his favorite memories involving either the Saints (his softball rec team), Mizzou Tigers, SLU Billikens, or of course the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ralph is remembered for his faith and leadership at Our Lady of the Pillar parish, serving our country as a member of the National Guard, and his service and generosity towards many schools and organizations, particularly those serving his hometown of Ferguson. His greatest personal achievement was raising his four children and being Papa to his four grandkids. To his family he was the epitome of unconditional love, devotion and resilience.
Ralph went out with grace and surrounded by love, hanging on to celebrate his 72nd birthday, 47th wedding anniversary and his 45th celebration of Father’s Day all while on hospice the last 3.5 months of his life. He was a loyal, hard working, faith-filled, and generous man of his word. He was known for going out of his way to help a friend, or even a stranger (who then became a friend). All who knew Ralph know he was one of a kind, and will never be replaced.
In his honor, please do a good deed for someone in need.
