Patty was the beloved wife of the late Bob Boothe; loving mother of Jeff Nowak and Amber Holman; cherished grandma of Shaye, Megan, and Matthew Nowak; dear sister of Keith (Terri) Kass; dear niece of the late Mel (Rosemary) Staat; best friend of Phyllis Huff. She was preceded in death by her parents Conrad and Vickie Kass, her grandparents Elsie and Eugene Staat, her brother Bruce Kass and her sister Beverly Lefler. She was a dear aunt of 9, a great-aunt, a cousin, and friend to many in her lifetime.
Patty was a graduate of Cleveland High School, Class of 1964. Patty was an amazing cook considered by close family and friends a chef even as a home cook. Everyone had their own favorite, from Beef Wellington to Christmas cookies. Christmas cookie baking was a tradition with her mother and then later with the grandkids. She was so thrilled that this particular Christmas to be able to unite the entire family in this endeavor. Her entire immediate family participated this year in baking over 500 cookies which were delivered to friends and family for the holidays. Everyone looked forward to the big family meals she loved to host, a tradition passed down from her mom. She shared her love of cooking with her grandchildren. Grandma Patty would sit them up in their booster seats right on the table or counter while she mixed whatever it was she was making. Later as they got bigger the booster seats were gone but of course Grandma, ever indulgent, let them continue to sit criss cross apple sauce right on the table.
She was a business owner and entrepreneur. She was a giant in the ceramics industry, having created and owned Boothe Ceramics with her husband, Bob. As a very talented painter, Patty was very well known and shared her knowledge by hosting seminars and was also frequently published in industry publications. Their monthly newsletter/magazine featured the companies ceramic products and shared painting tutorials of pattern created by Patty and shared internationally. Paula McCoy, owner of Colors For Earth which was created by Patty and Bob, had this to share..."Patty (the talent/dreamer) and Bob (the marketer) were leaders in the ceramic industry with their mold designs for utility ware and plain surfaces. Patty’s imagination was never ending when it came to designs and techniques on ceramics. Those surfaces turned into works of art! Patty was an artist, creator, mentor, and leader in the industry. Her love for ceramics and art inspired and paved the way for so many of us in ceramics.
Patty was the go-to lady if you needed an answer on anything ceramic, computers, crafts, listener and more! She was so humble about her talent. I enjoyed working with her over the past 30 years. She was always kind and encouraged me to follow my dreams. Patty launched my career all those years ago as an artist and in 2006 my husband and I purchased the color side of the business “Colors for Earth”. I will always be thankful for everything she has done for me and the ceramic community. She was simply the best!!"
Anyone who knew Patty knew she had a love of books as well. Her home office was more of a library and she had thousands of books. Her love of books blended with her love of cooking as one could tell from the hundreds of cookbooks she cherished. She often said that she should downsize but was never able to part with a single one. She was self taught in just about everything. She loved technology and there wasn't anything she couldn't figure out. She loved crafting of all sorts and her latest obsession was sewing and quilt making. She treasured her sewing club and met so many cherished friends through it. Generous to a fault, she enjoyed nothing more than sharing her love of crafting by making gifts for friends and loved ones. She made the most wonderful quilts for people!
Patty was a great dog-lover, especially for her last dog, a Westie named Sara, who crossed the rainbow bridge last year. The other furbabies in the past had been Sam, another Westie and George before that who was a Cocker Spaniel.
Above all, she was a great listener. She loved her family beyond words. One of the most recent things that she was so happy about was being able to reunite family that had been away for too long. She was able to spend the last year spending time with her daughter Amber and grand-doggy Max. She was kind, very generous, and always put others before herself. She was really smart and an out-of-the-box thinker. Her grandkids were extremely special to her. Starting at a young age they had a weekly tradition of going to the movies. There wasn't a kids movie out that the hadn't seen at least once. She will missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 20 from noon to 2pm, with a Funeral Service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Patty's memory to The Humane Society or the Kidney Foundation are greatly appreciated by her family.
