Mr. Braun was born December 10, 1938, in Motish, Yugoslavia. As a young man he immigrated to the United States with his family, settling in St. Louis. He worked as a baker in South St. Louis. Through his supervisor at the bakery young Braun met his future wife Virtis Turner, a Lemay native. Their introduction was so that Virtis could help Nikolaus learn South St. Louis English. He did that, and married Virtis, too.
Nikolaus eventually made his career with Schnucks Nancy Ann Bakery, where he worked until he retired. Along the way he became an avid Blues and Cardinals fan; loved to go fishing, and work in his yard and garden. Always a hard worker, Nikolaus collected and recycled aluminum cans and spent the money on special treats for his family, including some memorable road trips. When he found time to relax in front of the television no one was likely to get the remote from him. The device was like a machine gun in his hand as he flipped through the channels.
Nikolaus leaves a large and loving family to mourn his passing. He is survived by children Vires (Richard) Mori, Nannette (the late Richard) Guentz, Anita (Sam) Frier and Mary (Jeff) Mori; grandchildren Christopher (Diana) Braun, Stephanie Guentz, Thomas Mori, Samantha (Jake) Powell, Jennifer (Zach) Frier-Williams, Anthony (Beth) Mori, Nikolaus Frier, Jordan Mori and Cheyenne Mori; great-grandchildren Caylee and Alexander Braun; siblings Anna (Ray) Vonderhaar and Richard (Mary Ellen) Braun. He was preceded in death by a brother Jacob Braun.
