MENG LaVerne A. (nee Hermann), 89 of St. Louis, MO on Friday August 22, 2014. Loving wife of 63 years to Henry W. Meng; beloved mother of Karen (William) Favero, Sharon (the late Robert E. III) Hennessy, and Robyn O’Donnell; loving sister of Geraldine Kalisch (the late Kenneth); dear grandmother of Lauren (Benjamin) Reviere, Catherine (Reiner) Spitzbart, Sean Hennessy, Patrick Hennessy, Andrew Hennessy, Richard O’Donnell III and Bridget O’Donnell and great grandmother of Faith Reviere, Colton Reviere, Annabelle Reviere and Anthony Favero; dear aunt, cousin and friend.
After graduating high school, LaVerne worked as a bookkeeper for National Led Company and later as a cook/cashier at Bierbaum Elementary School in the Mehlville School District.
LaVerne met Henry when he was serving in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood. They were later married and settled in St. Louis, their hometown. In her youth, LaVerne was a member of the Jobs Daughters and became a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a very involved member of Bethesda Church where she spent many hours working in the kitchen preparing for dinners of all kinds. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. LaVerne enjoyed camping, cooking, was a mean card player and was a diehard Cardinals fan. She will be missed by her many friends, but especially by her children, grandchildren and the love of her life for over 63 years Henry.
Memorial Service 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Bethesda Evangelical Church, 85 Lemay Gardens Dr., St Louis, MO 63125. Interment Private Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In memory of LaVerne, contributions are encouraged to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131. Arrangements under the direction of Hoffmeister South County Chapel, Saint Louis, MO.
