John was the cherished father of Sharon (Jim) Forsythe, James (Visjna Jacobs) Hof, and Stephen (Claire) Hof; loving grandpa of Jeff (Deanna) Hof, James Cody Hof, William (Sarah) Hof, Paul Hof, Melissa (David Hudson) Hof, Kelly (Wolfgang) Acevedo, Rebecca Hof, and Tim Forsythe; dear great-grandfather of Conner, Kaylin, Gracie, Mia, Lincoln, Aria, and Nathaniel; dear uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, and a friend to many in his lifetime.
John was a World War II veteran. He taught at St. Catherine Laboure and retired from the Rockwood School District. He was an avid sports fan and he loved "my St. Louis Browns!"
He made many trips to the Indy 500 with his family. John loved to travel, especially to see his children and grandchildren. Cruising was his favorite way to see the world. As soon as he returned from one cruise, he was planning the next! John played pool his whole life and was still beating his kids well into his 90's.
Forever making jokes, John loved to make people laugh!
John's family wishes to thank the people at Charter Senior Living and Seasons Hospice for their loving care of their dad.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 23, from 8-10am with the funeral service at 10am, all at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109. Rite of Committal with Full Military Honors will commence at 11:30am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
