Born on October 29th, 1926, died November 18th, 2020. Husband of Peggy Trigg Knapp and the late Suzanne Burns Knapp for 32 years. Suzi was the mother of his four children. Brother of Annie Knapp Boomer and Audenried W. Knapp, both deceased. Father of Claire Knapp Chosid (Jeff), Leigh Knapp Butler (Bruce), George Knapp III (Katie) and Guy B. Knapp (Amy). Grandfather of Alex and Kiki Chosid, Lele Fryer Kulik, Annie and Peter Knapp, and Brewster and Courtney Knapp. Great-Grandfather of Audrey and Miles Kulik and Penny Chosid.
Peter served in the United States Army from 1944-1946. He was a gunnery Sargent who, due to his expert marksmanship, was requested to be a sniper for the army. He declined and was honorably discharged from the army.
He completed his college degree from Washington University in 1949 and was then employed by the Mercantile Trust Company where he started in a pre-executive training program. After a year, he was promoted and became the youngest officer in the history of the bank. In 1955, he went to work for Tobey Fine Papers in a sales and management capacity. Peter retired in 1991 as Vice President and Treasurer.
Peter joined St. Louis Country Club in 1952. His grandfather was one of the original members of the club in 1894. At golf and tennis, he was better than average.
At the age of eleven, his father took him on regular quail hunts every weekend. This early in life experience gave him a lifelong love of the outdoors and feathered bird hunting. For over 70 years, he was an aggressive duck and goose hunter, particularly ducks. For over 60 years, Peter would go duck hunting at least half the days of a season, or more. He went to Argentina and Uruguay many times to hunt ducks and geese. In July 1999, he had a goose hunt in Argentina that everyone familiar with goose hunting in North or South America, would agree is a world record goose hunt, both for one day and a five-day hunt total. Peter was an excellent duck caller and an exceptionally good shot.
The above was written by Peter. It is a snapshot of his life that he wished to share with all.
