nee Wernecke, 96, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Stanley E. Anderson; dear mother of Caroline (Dirk) Peterson, Fred (Kathy) Anderson and Mary Eunice Anderson; loving grandmother of Erik (Marcy) Peterson and Kristen (Bob) Gostomski; great-grandmother of Soren, Jack and Bo; dear sister of the late Wilmer and Francis Wernecke; our aunt and friend.
Eunice was born in Freeport, Illinois and moved to St. Louis when she was 12. She attended Webster Groves High School and even attended her 70th high school reunion. She attended Elmhurst College with a degree in English. She was singing in the choir at Eden Seminary when a young Seminarian, Stanley E. Anderson, fell in love with her while listening to her. After they married in 1945, they served churches in Nebraska, Oakville, Missouri, Rochester, Minnesota and finally South St. Louis. They retired to a two-family flat in South St. Louis in 1986, and enjoyed getting to know and helping out many of their renters from all over the world. They were retired for decades together, loving to visit Shaw’s Garden and going out to eat every Saturday night.
This is what we said to Mom before she passed away:
Dear Mom,
Thank you so much for bringing us into the world, for nurturing us to be grownups, and for all the sacrifices you and Dad made for us. Thank you so much for all you and Dad did to see that we had what we needed, and thank you for all the many things you did for others as a minister’s wife. Thank you for the good times we had together as a family at the World’s Fair, Lake Michigan, Metcalf’s Resort in Minnesota, Niagara Falls, and many other nice trips. Thank you for everything, and we love you.
Love and Peace,
Caroline, Mary, Fred and Kathy
