Charlie was the sweet and loved husband of Shirley (nee' Simon) Green; adored dad of Carol Green, Kym (Jim Ruffner) Green, and Charleen (Ken) Glass, loving papa of Morgan (T.J. Toal), C. Elliot, Austin, and Sam; dear great-grandpapa of Sailor; loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Adam Clark Green and Sarah Mae (nee' Young) Green, his many siblings, and infant son, Charles Edward II.
Charlie was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois during the Great Depression. He attended East St. Louis High and graduated in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1950 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the service, he and Shirley were married in 1954 at St. Agnes Church in St. Louis.
Charlie went to UM-Rolla on the GI Bill and earned his degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for Missouri Pacific RR for several years and eventually went into the demolition business. Charlie and Shirley lived in the Central West End for over 40 years where they raised their daughters.
He retired in 1993 and he and Shirley spent their leisure time together at their cottage in the country. Charlie was always building something, from a riding stable for the girls to a tree house for his grandchildren. He liked mowing the grounds around the property and chopping firewood for relaxation. Charlie was very generous and would go out of his way to help family and friends. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Semper Fi, Charlie!
Charlie gave the ultimate gift by donating his body to St. Louis University Medical School.
