Robert Isaac Jacob, age 93, passed quietly in his sleep on November 28, 2024. Dr. Bob, as he was known to most people, lived a long and fruitful life. He was born in Hartford, CT, and later attended the University of Connecticut. Dr. Bob then attended the Northwestern University Dental School, in Chicago, IL. He graduated in 1956 and immediately began serving in the U.S Army. Following four years of active duty, Dr. Bob returned to Connecticut and established his dental practice in New Britain, CT. For the next 35 years he pursued his passion, retiring in 1998. Dr. Bob continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Colonel in 1990. Dr. Bob reluctantly moved from Southington, CT to Jacksonville, FL in 2018, due to health concerns.
Dr. Bob enjoyed spending his time at home in Southington, tending to the needs of his property. He had numerous fruit trees, a garden, and heavy machinery. When he was not fighting with the squirrels or deer, he was busy digging holes with his backhoe, moving dirt in his dump truck, or spreading mulch. He had a passion for sports cars, tinkering with his beloved Jaguar. Apparently, Jaguars are built with lots of extra screws and bolts, because Dr. Bob had two coffee cans filled with excess parts, yet the car ran perfectly.
Dr. Bob was a long-time member of South Church in New Britain, serving as a Deacon. He was also actively involved in the YMCA in Southington, volunteering and serving on the Board of Directors.
Dr. Bob’s wife, Jerine Swanson-Jacob preceded his death in 2012. His parents, Abraham Isaac Jacob and Nanajan Jacob also predeceased Dr. Bob’s passing. He is survived by his two sons, Bradford (Ponte Verde Beach, FL) and Randall (St. Augustine, FL), and three grandchildren, Olivia Jacob (St. Petersburg, FL), Henry Jacob (Richmond, VA), and Rachel Jacob (Syracuse, NY).
A memorial service will be held for Dr. Bob on January 7, 2025, at South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain, CT, at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Dr. Bob’s honor be given to South Church or the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs (c/o Mark Pooler), 29 High Street, Southington, CT 06489.
