Howard Andrew Frank, 72, of St John’s FL, passed away April 8th, 2024, in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois in 1952 to Harry M. and Garnett L. (Haller) Frank. Howard attended Stanford Illinois schools and graduated from Stanford-Minier High School in 1970. After graduating, Howard began his employment with the Illinois Department of Transportation where he became foreman and lead worker. He retired in 2002 after 32 years with the department. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and a beloved nephew, Grant Harner. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theresa (McDermott) Frank of St Johns, FL, his sons, Howie (Elyssa) Frank of Bridgeport, WV, Chris (Brooke) Frank of St Johns, FL, twin grandsons, Brady and Clayton Frank, sisters, Judy (Edward) Frank-Gonwa of Libertyville, IL, Jane (Darrel) Phelps of Plano, TX.
Howard was a 50 year Mason in the Masonic Lodge of Bloomington, Illinois and Comet Lodge of Minier, Illinois. He was a regular performer in the American Passion Play for over a decade and a member of the Stanford Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He also served on the city council where he was later elected Mayor of Stanford, Illinois.
Howard had a lifelong passion for classic cars and horsepower as well as a love for sports, particularly baseball and golf. Howard enjoyed watching his sons, Howie and Chris, compete on the baseball field. Throughout their playing careers he rarely missed an opportunity to show his support through coaching and encouragement, all while stressing the importance of having fun and being a good teammate.
Later in life, Howard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Brady and Clayton. His favorite place to be, undoubtedly, was in a bleacher of some kind watching them excel in the field or on the court. Howard’s love for his family and friends was infectious, often being described as “the life of the party.” His larger-than-life personality and one-of-a-kind sense of humor allowed him to truly never meet a stranger in his lifetime. He was the friend you could count on, the father that never let his children down, and the husband that never stopped loving his wife.
The Frank family will receive guests on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024 at 10:30 am at Hardage-Giddens St Johns, 1285 St Johns Parkway, St Johns, FL 32259, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford, Illinois.
In remembrance of Howard’s love for family and baseball, the family asks that any donations be made to Creeks Baseball Club in St Johns, FL via the following link:
