Ernest L. Meyer, 88, of O’Fallon, MO passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2017 at his residence. He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Edward and Betty (nee Elliff) Meyer; siblings, Edward (Gertrude) Meyer, Katherine (John) Meyer, and William Meyer; and his special nephew, Michael Bodine. Ernie is survived by his devoted family; niece, Margaret (John) Eaton and their children, the late Scott, Marc, and Kent Meyer; nephew, Edward (Donna) Meyer and their children, Melissa Henson (her children, Nolan and Samantha Smith), the late Brad Meyer, and Jonathan (Shelly) Alexander; and niece, Betty Meyer-Smith and her children, Matthew, Brennan and Caitlin Smith.
Ernie was a member of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He worked as an aircraft inspector for McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing and retired from there after more than 30 years of service. “Uncle Ernie” was a man who was very dedicated to his family. He was the patriarch of the family and cared for nieces and nephews as if they were his own children. He was a bright and funny man with sarcastic wit and humor. He seemed like a tough guy on the outside, but Uncle Ernie truly had a heart of gold and will be missed deeply.
Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Pastor Jeff Mueller will preside and Ernie will be laid to rest beside his special nephew, Michael, at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
