STROOT, Donald H., 90, on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Beloved husband of Wilma S. (nee Shaner) Stroot; loving father of Sandra (John) Skroska; dear grandfather of Sara (Lloyd) Brown, Cindy (Bill) Moeller; great grandfather of Joey, Olivia, Maria, Lauren, Grace and Emma; dear brother of Doris (Stroot) Hahn, the late Bob Stroot, Jack Stroot; dear sister in law Marge (Cornish) Stroot; dear uncle cousin and friend to many.
He went to work in his father's bakery as a young man before entering the Army and serving his county during WWII. When he returned, he worked at JC Penney where he met Wilma and they were married on September 6, 1952. He later worked for Rapps and ended his career in the dairy department of Schnuck’s where he retired in 1990. He was actively involved with the American Legion Unit 338, having served selflessly at Fish Fries, Honor Guard and Bingo for many years. He loved family, children, his church, fishing, and gardening. For over 50 years he blessed children, family and friends as he appeared at their homes on Christmas Eve as his favorite character, Santa Claus. Everyone who met him, loved him.
SERVICES: Visitation 3pm-8pm Monday, February 23, 2015 at ALEXANDER-WHITE-MULLEN Funeral Home 11101 St. Charles Rock Rd., St. Ann, MO. Mass of Christian Burial 11am Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church 1424 1st Capitol Dr. South, St. Charles MO 63303. Interment with Military Honors in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to SSM Hospice of St. Charles or to the St. Louis Veterans Home.
