I knew the Schere family as a kid growing up  because  my Dad, Joseph O. Woodson and Charlie went to Wellston High School together.  Growing up in Bridgeton in the house on Fleetwood Place was a joy.   My Mom, Joyce, said Laura taught her how to laugh and enjoy herself.  Many New Years Eve's was spent in their home on Bennington. The adults played poker and at midnight, Laura brought out hot hero sandwiches with chips. They were a wonderful couple who devoted themselves to their family and children. I last visited them with my Mom years ago. Bright smiles and laughter, that's what I remember. God bless you Charlie and Laura. 

My wife called me after she went to church this morning to tell me of Charlie's passing, I can safely say anyone that knew, associated with or were friends with the Scherer family growing up or otherwise has fond memories of their family, we had a number of good people around the neighborhood but they were right at the top. Charlie always remembered one thing of me as a kid playing soccer with them, it makes me sound mean which I am not but he always got a kick out of that and reminded me of it almost every time I would run into to them, it always put a smile on his face to remind me, I'm glad it made him smile.

Jim Laura and family, We are praying for your family. Charlie is now pain free and with the love of his life.  What a great funny guy he was and we're  lucky to have known him.

To the Scherer family.

I was truly saddened to read of Charlie's passing in the paper this morning.

Even though it's been almost 60 years since I was lucky enough to play on one of the many baseball teams he managed and coached - they are some of the fondest memories I have from my early teens.

I'm not sure of the last time I talked to Charlie, probably in the early 1970's at Steak n Shake on North Lindbergh Blvd.  He, Laura and his family were having dinner and we were able to chat about the J. E. Barry team he managed in the 1950's.

After all these years, I still have the wonderful memories of Charlie coaching the team, Laura keeping score and their son Charles working as our bat-boy.  They are certainly going to be missed by family and friends alike.

To Rob and the entire Scherer family, please accept my deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences.  My prayers and thoughts are with you during your time of sorrow.

As Joe Gould said:  "They may be gone but never forgotten."

Sorry to hear about the loss of Charlie no Idea that Laura Had passed away Charlie is headed for that big race track in the sky where he will be with Laura once again. I will never for get those days 60 years ago when we would all pack into there house for koolaid and cookies after soccer or our baseball games. They may be gone but never forgotton.

You were not only my Father In Law but my Friend and for that I am truly grateful, I promise to try and pick more winners at the track but doubt if I will be as good as you
