Alan R. Bourque, 69, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2014. He is the beloved husband of Sharon Bourque, nee Mayhew, who survives. They were married July 16, 1966. Alan is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jim Hafley; grandchildren Lizzie and Ian Hafley, and sisters and brothers-in-law Janet and John Gills and Lois and Jim Chasteen.
Alan was born July 31, 1944, in Chicago, IL, son of Robert and May Bourque, nee Hess.
He loved all things electronic from a very young age, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Chicago Technical College. He was a retired Electrical Engineer from Emerson Electric, where he was part of teams who developed computerized mail sorting machines for the U.S. Postal Service. In his spare time, he spent many hours tinkering with electronics, from installing numerous different electronic devices in their home over the years, to building electrical boards for model trains, and wiring a miniature doll house he worked on with his wife.
He and his wife Sharon served as members of the Bridgeton Police Department Auxiliary for 16 years. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association and active in the local BackStoppers organization. He enjoyed traveling, making trips to Hawaii, the Carribean, Branson, and other places, and later on, enjoyed long trips with his wife in their RV.
Alan loved his family, and was very proud of his daughter and grandchildren, and will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home 11101 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, Mo. 63074. Private interment will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 19. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society; Humane Society of Missouri – St. Louis County; or BackStoppers of St. Louis.
