Joan Wavaline Chambers was born Oct 26, 1932 in Belpre, OH to John Chambers and Mary Elizabeth Trippett. She lost her mother at the tender age of 13 and was raised by her maternal grandparents, Byron and Florence Trippett in Marietta, OH. Joan completed her high school education by completing the highest GED score ever recorded at that time. Joan also attended Morris Harvey College in quest to become a teacher but never obtained her degree due to raising a large family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Howard William “Bill” Barton, grandson, Brandon Michael Barton-Shipley, and unnamed twin boy at birth.
She is survived by Brenda “Brandi” Barton, of St. Albans, Vicky Fields (Roger), of Tornado, Craig Barton (Tina), of Travers Rest, SC, Brian Barton, of St. Albans, Joanie Schirtzinger (Greg), of Winfield, grandchildren, Damian A. Arlyn (Kristin), Tawnya Fields Mosteller (Craig), Joshua D. Fields (Tara), Isaiah R. Fields (Alexis), Caleb L. Fields (Kayla), Sharon Key (Scott), Dr. Heather Stowe (Drew), Jonathan Barton (Jennifer), Hannah Eskins (Caleb), Benjamin Barton, Beth Lawson, David Westfall, Andrea Schirtzinger, Dustin Schirtzinger, Nicholas Schirtzinger (Cara), great grandchildren, Makayla Mosteller (Isaac), Heather Mosteller, Dalton Fields, Brittany Kelley, Tristan Fields, Chandler Fields, Gage Fields, Gunner Fields, Jacob Key (Ceara), Maria Key (Kaleb), Gwen Key, Elliott K. Stowe, Liam Barton, Daniel Eskins, Bryson Murrell, and Paxton Schirtzinger.
Joan worked all her life and held several positions working for the Kanawha County Commissioners, Kanawha County Juvenile Court, and D. Boone Dawson. Her favorite job was working as the recording secretary for Maranatha Fellowship for 40 years where she retired on her 80th birthday. After that she worked with her daughter Brandi and earned the moniker as “The Queen of Main Street” during her last 2 years.
Joan was a faithful and tireless worker in everything she did and she always strived for excellence. She supported her church and pastors in every way. People always said that they could see the light of Jesus shining from her face. She always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone. She lived the bible and loved her Lord.
