Carol Jean Jarrett Carter peacefully entered life in glory on February 6, 2019, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 82. Carol was born on July 13, 1936 to Paul Allen Jarrett and Dorothy Edith Sheets in Charleston, W.V. She spent her childhood years in St. Albans with her four siblings and parents.
Carol acquired a multitude of friends there that she sustained cherished relationships with throughout her life. She attended school in St. Albans, WV, including St. Albans High School, through the 11th grade. She spent her senior year at Stonewall Jackson High School and graduated in 1954.
Carol married Max Edward Carter on June 1, 1956. She completed her teaching degree and taught English at various locations in Kanawha County before retirement. A lifelong learner, she attended Morris Harvey College, Marshall University and W V College of Graduate Studies. Carol also held an MA in Counseling, an MA in Administration and 60 additional graduate hours in related areas. She moved to Victoria, Texas, with her husband Max in 1982. After retirement, Max and Carol resided in Tennessee for several years until his death in 2000. In most recent years she resided in Corpus Christi, Texas, with frequent trips to Nashville and W. V. to alternate time with family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also worked part-time as a CCISD home based teacher for teenage parents.
Carol will always be remembered for her contagious smile and vivacious spirit, and most of all, for how she made us laugh! She was an amazing mom, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother to many. She gave her unconditional love to all and touched the lives of those in need. Carol said she was blessed to be born with a happy gene; those that knew her agreed. Her, grandchildren and great grandchildren will always remember and cherish the love, laughter and hugs bestowed by their adored “Mimi”.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dorothy Jarrett, her mother-in-law, Marie Carter, husband, Max Carter Sr., their daughter, Robin Moore Vick, and her brothers, Eddie, Donald and Darrell Jarrett. She became a second mother to Robin’s children Alyssa, Tyler and Timothy after Robin’s death.
She is survived by her sister Mary Lee Dehart (Carl) of St. Albans, W. V., sister-in-law Anne Burrows (Larry) of Newtown, Ohio, brother-in-law Rev. Dr. Robert Carter (Jean) of Greensboro, N. C., Ricky Jarrett (Robin) of Gainesville, Florida, daughter Terri Alford, (Todd) of Corpus Christi, TX., son Max Carter Jr. (Lynne) of Greenbrier, Tn., son Derek Carter (Shiloh) of Friendswood TX., numerous nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Thank you, Carol, for the timeless gift of your love and laughter. When you hear laughter, know she’s there!
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at St. Peters United Methodist Church, St. Albans, W.V. Interment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park.
A memorial service will also be held in Corpus Christi, Texas at 11:00 am on March 30, 2019 at Asbury United Methodist Church.
