Yolanda Garafola, our precious mother, was born into eternal life in Sacramento, California on November 23, 2014 at the age of 92, surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her devoted husband of 38 years, Palmo, and her treasured brother John, Mom leaves behind three loving children: Anthony (Rachel), Gloria (Mike), and Lillian (Gary). Mom cherished and was adored by her five grandchildren: Christina (Chris), Angelina, Dominique, Paul, Ryan, and Stephanie.
Born in Porticelle, Italy to Pietro and Vincenza in 1922, Mom grew up during the tumultuous times preceding and during WWII. In 1952, her brother introduced her to a returning American GI who quickly decided she was “the one.” After a brief courtship, Mom and Dad were married in Italy then returned to America to start a new life. In 1959, Dad and Mom moved the family to Arden Park in Sacramento where Mom said she was never happier.
Mom was the quintessential homemaker. She was simply devoted to her family and loved nothing more than looking after us and cooking like nobody’s business. Mom was a founding member of the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church and was deeply committed to her faith throughout her life. Always kind, generous and loving, everyone gravitated to her. She will be profoundly missed not only by her family, but also by her many friends.
We thank all those who helped care for Mom during her final days, especially Sala. A Rosary for the repose of Mom’s soul will be prayed on November 28, 2014 at 6:30 pm at Lombard & Company, 1550 Fulton Ave., Sacramento, CA 95825; a Funeral Mass will be held on November 29, 2014 at 11:30 am at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery Chapel, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento, CA 95841. In lieu of flowers Mom requested that you say a prayer for her soul and simply love one another.
