Reuben Harris Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 10, 1924 to Maggie Butler Harris and Reuben Harris Sr. He was the oldest of 5 children.
After being honorably discharged from World War II in 1945, he moved to California and met and married Ruth Beason who preceded him in death. They enjoyed a nearly 60 year union.
Reuben was an eccentric, independent and caring person who had a zest for life. He enjoyed photography, playing the lottery, entering contests, and watching sporting events, particularly the Oakland Raiders. He was the unofficial family photographer for many years. He had season tickets to the Raiders even when the team temporarily moved to Los Angeles. Throughout the years he was the guide, mentor and special friend to his family, particularly to his nieces.
Reuben leaves to cherish his precious memories two sibling’s, Carrie Blackman and John Melvin Harris both of Oakland CA, three grandchildren, Cheridan Harris of Oakland CA, Randolph Trisdale Harris and Casean Harris both of Sacramento, CA. Reuben was predeceased by his parents, sister Dorothy Harris, brother Tommy Jenkins, and a son Randolph “Rickey” Harris.
Reuben leaves behind three sisters-in-laws, Marjorie Miller and Betty Randolph both of Sacramento, CA, and Vera Randolph of San Diego, CA; loving nieces, Pamela Miller of Los Angeles CA, Patricia Earnshaw of Mbabane, Swaziland, Renee’ Randolph & Trendete Randolph both of Sacramento, CA, Andrea Randolph of Santa Barbara, CA and Traci Randolph-Painter of El Paso, Texas and additionally, nephews Charles “Kenny” Randolph and Vince Randolph. Also survived by Reuben are his great-nieces, Samantha Earnshaw of Sacramento, Kayla Gonzales of Las Cruces, NM and his great-nephews, Cleveland Williams and Thulani Earnshaw both of Sacramento, CA, Phila Earnshaw of Mbabane, Swaziland, Christopher Gonzales of El Paso, Texas and DeAndre Painter of Highland Springs, Virginia.
Reuben Harris rest in peace, you were well loved and will be missed.
