Marie Bertha Cantu

August 24, 1944 - February 6, 2023

Sacramento, California - Marie Cantu, born on August 24, 1944 in Sacramento, CA, to Luis and Eliria Cantu, entered into eternal rest on February 6, 2023 in Sacramento, at the age of 78. She was lovingly welcomed home by those who preceded her in death, her parents, brothers Robert and Joseph, sisters Edna (Bob), Viola, Emilie, Joanne (Kenny), Thelma, and Sylvia, and long-time dear friend Joe Arrowsmith. Marie is survived by her brother-in-law John Powers, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. After 40 years of dedicated public service, Marie retired as a Medi-Cal Human Services Specialist with Sacramento County. Marie was an avid adventurer and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Caribbean, China, Europe, Hong Kong, Korea, and Mexico. During various trips to Rome, Marie attended services with Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI, and had the honor of meeting Mother Teresa. She also enjoyed family trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe. Marie was a devout catholic and a lifelong parishioner of St. Philomene's Catholic Church. She was loyal, fiercely independent, loved being around people, always provided care and support when needed, and her favorite role was "Aunt". She will be missed by all those who knew her. A Rosary is scheduled for February 15, 6:30 pm, at Lombard Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be February 16, 10 am, at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.
