Sacramento, California - Lucy Mata Lainas passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024 at the age of 85 after a long courageous battle with Dementia. She was born on October 30, 1939, to Teodulo Mata Sr. and Antonia (Guerrero) Mata in Esparto CA. Lucy graduated from Esparto High School in 1957. After High School Lucy moved to Sacramento where she worked for Pacific Bell. During her years in Sacramento, she met her future husband, Chris Lainas Jr. They were married in 1969 and made their home in Sacramento.
Lucy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Woodland Aerie #2345 and Sacramento Aerie #9. During Lucy's years as a member of Woodland Aerie #2345 she held many offices, eventually serving as President. She also had the honor to serve as First Lady when Chris reached the level of International President of the Eagles in 2006.
Chris and Lucy enjoyed traveling for fun and advancing the charitable missions of the F.O.E. Lucy was also a member of the V.F.W Post 67, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society and was a Big Sister.
Lucy is survived by brothers Felix Mata of Yuba City, Albert Mata of Woodland and sister Katie Knisely of Woodland as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Chris Lainas Jr., parents, brothers, Ted, Val and Joseph (Hunow), sisters Augie Percival, Amelia Gazell, Rita Green and Dolores Castillo.
Services to be held Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 10-12 at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave, Citrus Heights, CA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Alzheimer's Association.
