A mother is someone you love for doing thoughtful things to show she cares. We are grateful for sharing our lives with our mom, Lucy L. Chan of Elk Grove, California. She passed peacefully & quietly in her daughter's home at the age of 86. She was born in Shanghai, China, was wife to late Mon Hing Chan, mother of 5 children: Michael, Cecelia, Dorothy, Robert, Jeanette, and sons-in-law Wayne Ouchida, Robert Lowe, and daughter-in-law Ann Chan. Lucy had nine grandchildren: Ashley Chan, Patrick Chan, Heather Chan, Lindsay Bazett, Christopher Bazett, Michael Ouchida, Richard Ouchida, David Lowe, Sarah Lowe; three great grandchildren: Layse, Enzo, and Coco, and many nieces and nephews and their families. She attended Sacred Heart Primary and Secondary Canossian College of Santa Rosa de Lima in Shanghai. During WWII she enrolled in Shanghai College for Women. She met her late husband Mon Hing Chan in southern Guangdong province of China in 1947 and later married in Macau before moving to the U.S.
Among many passions Lucy found great joy as a homemaker, loved gardening, knitting, sewing, cooking, crocheting, and sharing great times with family and friends fishing, traveling, shopping, raising pigeons. She enjoyed working with her friends in the Sacramento Delta area and the local cannery in Thornton.
There will be a Celebration of Life for the spirit of Lucy on Nov. 30 at Harry A. Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd. Prayer service and eulogy is at 10:00am. You are invited to sign a guest book and share your special memories at Lucy's Celebration of Life. Burial Service at Franklin Cemetery in Sacramento County and at 1:30pm at Hong Kong Islander, 5675 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Viewing on Friday, Nov. 29, 4pm-7pm, and a rosary from 7pm-8pm.
