Joe was born in Sacramento, California on March 18, 1937 to Jose E. Chavez Sr. and Carmen Castillo Chavez and passed away in his hometown on May 23, 2014. Joe was a devoted husband to his wife Joanne of 52 years. He was an Air Force veteran and retired from the post office after 44 years. He was an avid sailor but another one of his passions was building and flying model airplanes since childhood and he also loved photography. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Carmen and brother, Armando Chavez. He is survived by his wife Joanne; sons David and Gregory (Lynn); brother Robert; sister Carmen and grandchildren Mark, Brenden and Sarah.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 4-7:00 p.m. with Rosary Service at 7:00pm at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 660 Florin Rd. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
