John is survived by his brothers: Les (Sandy), Bill (Katherine), Don (Joyce); his nieces and nephews: Debbie, Jeff (Tammy), Danese (Gary), Bill (Amber), Suzanne (Jorge), Khalil (Kaye), Kaitlin, Dylan and fourteen great nieces and nephews. The Benuzzi family and friends at the Cedarwood Mobile Home community.
John was born in Chico and moved to Sacramento as a small child. He grew up in South Sacramento and attended local schools and graduated from McClatchy in 1957 where he played football. He was honorably discharged from the Army after serving three years in Germany where he was a radio operator and truck driver.
John was a genuine blue collar guy. He loved his Ford 150 pickup, their mobile home, bowling and having breakfast at Denny's. He grew wonderful tangerines and sent them to family and friends at Christmas. He followed the Giants and the 49ers and hated the Patriots. He worked for Chevron as a serviceman and mechanic for over thirty years where he was known for being a dependable and hard worker with a great sense of humor. while doing all this he spent many hours each week helping his widowed mother stay in her own home well into her 90's. As a retired couple John and Cecil loved camping, fishing, bowling and traveling all over the west.
John loved the Fourth of July. He always took charge of lighting the fireworks and chowing the kids how it was done. One of our best memories of John is of him lighting off the grand finale with his big butane torch. We love him and will miss him.
Special thanks to the staff at the Sherwood Health Care Center, Stansberry Cottage Assisted Living and Sutter Hospice.
At John's request there will be no services. He and his wife Cecil will be interred together at Camellia Memorial Lawn.
