John Michael Bostwick died at home on Flag Day, June 14, 2013, of metastatic lung cancer. Born in San Francisco on October 16, 1943, John was a fourth generation Californian, whose maternal forebears, the Black's and the Bower's, crossed the plains in the early 1850's from Illinois to settle in Yolo county and found Black's Station, now known as the town of Zamora.
John spent his youth in Dixon, CA, where he graduated from Dixon HS in 1961. John was a proud member of,the US Army and served seven years in the reserves. After a great 35 year career with SMUD as the tool room supervisor, he retired in 2000 to enjoy a fun filled life traveling, golfing, and cataloging new experiences with his beloved Toni. John was a member of SIRS and Elks #1299 and gave generously to numerous veterans and cancer research organizations.
John leaves behind his devoted sweetheart, Toni Placencia; brother, Bob Bostwick (Jill); sister, Betty Renz; and son, Michael, plus numerous nieces and nephews, and many many dear lifelong friends.
John liked: old cars, Corvettes, Budweiser beer, dive bars, golf, get togethers with family and friends, to tinker with stuff, NYC, NOLA, Catalina and Monterey, and to hold court in his garage. Services are private. Family and friends are invited to a party to honor John, at the Freeport Bar and Grill, 8259 Freeport Blvd, on July 13, at 3:00 p.m.
Remembrances in John's name may be made to a veterans or cancer research organization. 'Be cool, man'.
