Jaswant Lekhu Michael Singh, 90, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on January 6th, 2024, from natural causes. He was born on December 9, 1933, in Lautoka, Fiji Islands, to Shiu Sharan Singh and Ram Raji Singh, the youngest son in a family of ten siblings.
Jaswant was born into a life of privilege and prominence, with his family running multiple businesses including a successful soda factory in Fiji established by their grandfather Lekhu Singh. During World War II, the Singh family's soda factory supplied soda to the American Army stationed in the South Pacific. Many American generals frequented their home during this time, sparking Jaswant's interest to immigrate to the United States. This aspiration led him on a journey through Australia (Tasmania), Canada (Vancouver, where he lived in a Gurudwara), and eventually settling in Seattle, Washington.
In 1975, Jaswant married Chandra Ramrakha in San Francisco, CA. Together, they raised two children, Ragni Kaveeta Singh, and Sudershan Jaswant Singh MD, while maintaining their home in Seattle, Washington. Jaswant's greatest pride and joy was his family, and he dedicated his life to providing them with a good life.
Jaswant worked diligently for over 30 years as a Diesel Mechanic Supervisor at Greyhound, followed by various landscaping jobs, before spending over 30 years at The Hearthstone. He loved to work and travel with his family, cherishing every moment spent together. Upon his retirement in 2018, he split his time between Seattle and Woodland, enjoying the peace and tranquility of both places. He continued singing even into his final days often singing old Hindi songs.
Jaswant was predeceased by his parents, all of his older brothers and sisters, and many cousins who were like siblings to him. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Chandra Singh, his two children Ragni Singh and Sudershan Singh MD, and his younger sister, Kala Singh, Brother-in-law Harry Singh, and sister Kamlesh Sharma.
Jaswant Michael Singh will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his advice, his sense of humor, and his beautiful singing voice. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Jaswant's life will be held on March 16, 2024, at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home in Sacramento CA. All friends and family are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
Rest in peace, Jaswant. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
