James Peter York, long-time resident of Elk Grove, California passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 6th, 2011 at the age 63. Born 11/9/47 in Hayward, California to the late Zena B. Carswell and James P. York of North Carolina. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Esther York, two sons, James York and Keith York, sister Jane Glasser (York) of Oregon , grandchildren Kirsten York and Christopher York. Worked as an auditor for the State of California for 30+ years. Devoted his life to the care and protection of others. Throughout his life, he enjoyed various hunting expeditions with friends and family at his ranch in Redding, California, most of all, hunting wild boar with his son Jimmy. James thoroughly enjoyed personal labor, whether caring for his cattle, sheep and chickens, his many extremely well-fed dogs, tending to his large vegetable garden, or pruning the small orchard of fruit trees at home. His wife Esther, always beside him as a trusted companion, eager to share their fruit and veggie harvest with so many loved ones throughout the years. When he wasn’t gardening or hunting, you’d find Jim chopping wood and building huge stacks of firewood for the principal enjoyment of his wife Esther and late mother Zena. Last but not least, Jim loved traveling with Esther for their weekly trips to Reno or Tahoe, enjoying over a decade of retirement living together. James York, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, will be sorely missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him as our MVP – The Patriarch of the York Family! Services will be held at the Harry A. Nauman & Son funeral home, located at 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, October 12th from 5pm to 9pm and the service will be held on Thursday, October 13th at 10am.
