Dr. Hing Owyang, Jr. was born in San Francisco on April 25, 1924. He peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Hing was a caring and compassionate man who valued education, hard work, honesty, humor and the importance of family. Though he was born in San Francisco, he grew up in Courtland, located beside the Sacramento River, working with his five siblings on the Runyon and Dorsey Ranch. Motivated to leave the ranch, he pursued his education and chose dentistry as his career, attending the University of California, San Francisco. He graduated in 1951, and moved to Sacramento to open his dental practice, located in the Medical Dental building on 11th and L Streets. His passion for dentistry and compassion for helping others led him to practice dentistry for over 53 years. His legacy continued, working alongside his family. He inspired his children to pursue an education and to choose careers that help others. Hing had a special bond with all of his family. He was rewarded in life knowing he succeeded in leaving a legacy of love in all of our hearts. Hing enjoyed many hobbies: he traveled the world, enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, attending Kings basketball games, and ballroom dancing with his wife of 65 years, Helen. He even enjoyed playing poker, blackjack, and mahjong during his later years. Whether it was cruising or Disneyworld, he enjoyed these trips with his family. Being with his family was his brightest and joyful moments in life. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen, and leaves a legacy of three children and their spouses: Greg (Regina), Lisa (Ron), Debbie (Victor), and seven grandchildren.
A service for Hing will be held on Sunday, November 19th at 11:00am at Harry A. Nauman & Son, located at 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento. The family requests that donations in the name of Hing Owyang, Jr. be made to ACC Senior Services, 7334 Park City Drive, Sacramento, CA 95831 or the Sacramento District Dental Foundation, 2035 Hurley Way, Sacramento, CA 95825.
