Gerald was born March 16, 1922 to Bertha and William Adams in Le Ray, New York and grew up in the Watertown, NY area. He joined the U.S. Navy in September, 1942 and served on the carrier ship USS Independence until the end of the war, receiving several ribbons and commendations. Returning to Watertown, he began his career as an electrician serving his apprenticeship. During that time he met and married Pauline Brzezinski June 19, 1948. Family followed with a son in 1950 and three daughters in 1953, 1956 and 1958. During that time he also decided to parlay some of his Navy experience maintaining ship instrumentation into the clock and watch repair business having a small shop for a few years.
The family moved to Sacramento in December, 1958 with Gerald continuing his electrical career working and running residential, industrial and commercial projects. But he ALWAYS had time for family whether it be camping with the "Humpty Dumpty" travel trailer (later replaced with a beautiful Airstream he and Polly enjoyed during their retirement), leading a Boy Scout troop or providing whatever support he could for the latest interest of one of the kids. He fully supported Polly's numerous hobbies and interests whether it meant framing her paintings, making shelving for her numerous collections, or fixing the frame in the latest piece of furniture she was recovering. He also contributed greatly to the Sacramento Polish American club with his time and labor serving as president for many years up until he could no longer drive himself to the meetings and events.
Gerald had a zest for life. Always the comedian, he was at his best with a crowd of people to joke around with and share his stories. Not to be outdone by Polly, he had his share of hobbies including bee keeping, wine making, home building/remodeling, hunting and salmon fishing on the Rogue River to name just a few. Gerald was always in his element when helping others with one of their projects.
Gerald is survived by his children Dan, Christal, Lori, and Roxanne, their spouses, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren as well as many, many extended family members.
Services will be held at Nicoletti, Culjis and Herberger Funeral Home on Folsom Blvd, Sacramento on Jan 2, 2021 with viewing at 10:00am, service at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, Gerald would have wanted a donation to your favorite charity especially during these challenging times. Please email a request to [email protected] if you would like a link to a Zoom meeting for the service.
