George is survived by his partner of 23 years, Andrew Sutliff, his siblings Susan, Frank, Michael and Jason, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Melva Pearl, his father George Lee Sr., and his sister Catherine (Cathy).
George spent his early years in Flintstone, Maryland and Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In Carlisle, George met Kathleen nee Gast and they married in 1980. Soon thereafter they made their way to the West Coast. They ran board and care homes for the elderly and had many adventures together. Kathleen gave much of her life energy and love to George. Even though they separated in the mid-1990's, they both remained close until her passing in 2019.
George had a big heart and made friends easily. Many of his co-workers became lifelong friends, even when those jobs had come to an end. He made a point of getting to know his neighbors and exchanged Christmas gifts with many every year. He relied on those friends, both near and far, to talk with, laugh with, commiserate with and generally get through life with. Especially in the last few years, George could be heard in the late-night, early-morning hours speaking on the phone with his friends, Sharon or Jeff in particular, or his only remaining sister, Sue. The loss of his sister Cathy was devastating to him, and friends and family were his rock in his darkest hour.
George loved his dogs, Bella and Cookie. Prior to these two he had Nadia, a chihuahua, and her two puppies, Thumbelina and Ms. Needles. Those three had passed already, but he still thought of them regularly.
This past spring, George had the opportunity to be with family in Hawaii. There he got to spend time with his sister and her family. He was especially delighted to be able to spend time with his great-niece Alicia and great-nephew JM, spoiling them whenever he could.
George's interests ranged from cars, boats and camping to music, shopping and collectibles.
George will forever be missed and adored in the hearts of those who love him.
A memorial service is scheduled for October 21st, 2022, 2 pm, at Nicoletti, Culjis and Herberger Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal shelter/rescue in his honor.
