Born on October 20, 1919 in Freeport, California to Joseph and Rose Nevis Valine, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2010 with loving family at her side. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Louis Soto, daughters Gail Soto and Nancy Weathersbee, brothers Lawrence, Joseph and Jimmy Valine, and sisters Loraine Richter and Bernice Gwinn. She is survived by sister Betty Alei, son Joseph Soto and his wife Cindy, son-in-law Jim Weathersbee and his wife Elaine, grandchildren Kim Compton, Kelly Scriven (Jon), Shannon DiSantis (Matt) and Gail Quinn (Aaron), five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graduate of Woodland High School, Ethel worked for 30 years as a school secretary at Clarksburg Elementary and Delta High School. She was a member of Cabrillo Club, American Portuguese Club, VFW, and I.D.E.S., and volunteered at the Sacramento Food Bank and Call Three. Ethel enjoyed bingo, playing cards, gardening, ceramics, golf and sewing. She touched the lives of so many and will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 7, 2010, between the hours of 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Harry A. Nauman & Son Land Park Chapel, 4041 Freeport Boulevard, Sacramento, California, with recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, California.
