Elizabeth Betty M. Heaton

Born on August 2, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, entered into eternal peace on December 28, 2015 in Carmichael, California at age 92. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary O’Connor, her brother Lawrence, her husband Ival, her son D. Paul and grandson Morgan Heaton. Betty completed her early education in Mt. Pleasant and later attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Illinois, becoming a registered nurse in 1944. In December of the same year she married her high school sweetheart, Ival Heaton, then a submariner in the United States Navy. In 1955 Betty and Ival settled in the Sacramento area where they raised their children and lived the rest of their lives. During her 55 years of marriage, Betty sometimes worked as a registered nurse while raising their seven children. She was active in the St Mary’s Altar Society, Wellspring Women’s Center, Mercy General Hospital Guild and other charitable organizations. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to others and was recognized as Woman of the Year in the Diocese of Sacramento in 2000. Betty is survived by her brother Robert E. O’Connor, her sister Joan F. DuPass, and by six of her children: Joseph (Linda), Thomas (Olga), Patrick (Jenine), Janice Green (Gary), John (Ora), and Timothy (Katie) as well as 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers Betty requested that memorials be made to St Mary’s School, Wellsprings Women’s Center, or other charitable organizations.
