Dorothy Jackson Gage was born on June 1, 1929 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the union of Robert Jackson and Corinna Markham Jackson, a mother she dearly loved and admired. She married Ardis Gage, Jr. on March 13, 1954. Sadly, after their divorce she and her six children alone with their Pekingese dog (Chew) headed to California the summer of 1966. She started her education in Shreveport, Louisiana but completed it in San Francisco California by receiving her high school diploma from Mission High School, June 4, 1969. The same year her oldest child graduated from high school. Dorothy went on to complete a year of college before landing a job as a SalesPerson working for Emporium and Gumps Department Stores. Always, the most industurious person, she was an amazing cook, excelling in sewing and quilt designing which each of her children, grand-children and great grand-children can attest to. Everyone who has known Dorothy can truly say she was a loving, friendly and caring person. A very strong willed and courageous woman and mother as a single parent raised six children. Some refer to her as “MOM” due to her willingness to help anyone in any situation. Displaying many qualities some of us will not forget her amazing wit that sometimes made us laugh. She would speak her mind but we knew behind the humor there was wisdom that we will always cherish. Dorothy had many talents and one she deeply enjoyed was performing volunteer work at the Senior Gleaners for twenty-five years. She worked in the computer room, the warehouse, the kitchen and other places when she was needed. Her volunteer work earned her the Presidential Award in May 2002. Her life was centered around religious pursuits as a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in North Highlands, California. There she served on the Mother’s Board and was very active until her illness. Dorothy was preceded in death not only by her parents but two daughters Carolyn Charlot and Debbie Taylor. Two precious grand-children, Brandon Jermon Washington and Tiffany Monique Gage. Four sisters: Mary, Eliza Mae, Josie and Wayvlon (Ruth). Four brothers: Robert, John L, Garfield and Howard. She is survived by: one sister, Eunice Turner, daughters, Patricia Ann Washington (Richard), Beverly Rogers (Slyvester), Unetha Gage-Norman, one son, Ardis Gage, Jr. (Cindy). Seventeen grand-children and ten great-grandchildren. An indefinite number of relatives and close friends. Expressions From The Family Deeply from our hearts we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for your acts of kindness and love. This is truly a difficult time for us and your prayers, cards and your phone calls has lifted our spirits. We await the time when no one will say the words, “I AM SICK” as promised at Isaiah 33:24.
