Thomas Leslie Beedy

Thomas Beedy, 87, a lifelong resident of Mexico, Maine, passed peacefully on the evening of Tuesday January 31, 2017 at home surrounded by loved ones.

He was born February 15, 1929, the son of Carson and Dorothy Greene Beedy.

Tom graduated from Mexico High School in 1948 then continued his education at a technical school in Boston, Massachusetts. Tom later entered the Air Force where he was blessed with meeting his wife Shirley Vivian Cran while stationed in Duluth, Minnesota.

After leaving the Air Force Tom returned home to Mexico, where he raised his family. He worked as a pipe fitter of the Boise Cascade Paper Mill, which he retired from in 1984. He was also a strong union member and president that pushed for the safety of his fellow coworkers.

Tom was known by many for the making of his unique wine and spirits, dancing and his nickname “Iron Man.”

He loved sharing his knowledge with others of Maine's history and told numerous stories about his life adventures.

His greatest gift to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was his unconditional love and time he gave to share his knowledge and love for the outdoors. Tom took many trips with them to the West Branch of the Penobscot River for kayaking, camping, fishing, hiking, and fossil hunting. He also enjoyed berry picking, cross country skiing, hunting, and spending time at the family camp on Worthley Pond.

He is survived by his four children and their spouses, son Mark & Cindy Beedy of Mexico, daughters Kim & Michael Chiasson of Mexico, Sandy & Paul Parent of Peru, and Pam & Arnold DiRuggiero of Winter Harbor; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Reta Muir; and brothers James and Wayne Beedy.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife Shirley; and sisters Mildred Allen and Viola Dorr. Tom also leaves behind his dog Kelly who was his companion and best friend for 12 years.
