Ruth was born on September 10, 1961, in Rumford, ME to Orin and Theresa Myles. She graduated from Rumford High School in 1979 and then went on to the University of Maine in Orono where she graduated in 1983 with a degree in Business Administration. On September 22, 1984, she married Michael Brown of Bethel and they had two children, Kayla and Ryan. She later went on to earn her Master’s in Education from the University of Maine in Farmington in 2011. Ruth taught at Region 9 School of Applied Technology for many years. It was a job she found rewarding and gave her great purpose. She was a wonderful teacher who poured everything she could into her classroom.
Ruth’s strength and grace were admirable. Nothing could stand in the way of her completing her plans, especially when it came to spending time with family and spoiling kids and grandkids alike. She was a source of comfort and fortitude to everyone who knew her. She cared deeply about her family- she was our rock. Ruth loved going camping, especially the yearly trip to Cathedral Pines Campground. She also enjoyed hosting family gatherings, going on vacation with Mike, and taking day trips with "her girls." Ruth loved being a mom, and she absolutely loved being a Grammie to Hannah and Holden. She looked forward to weekend visits and hearing daily stories of the cute and funny things they did. They made her so happy.
She was predeceased by her parents, her son, Ryan, her niece, Hilary Brown, her nephew, Jonathan Anderson, and her sister, Jennifer Kenneally.
Ruth leaves behind Mike, her loving husband of 40 years, a daughter, Kayla Doolittle, and her husband, Tim, two adored grandchildren Hannah Ryan and Holden Michael of Topsham, ME, and a very special niece, Brenna Myles of Bethel. Ruth is also survived by sisters Pam Nicols (Billy), Carmen Myles, Laurie Myles (Terry), Patty Myles, and Mary Myles, brothers Bruce Myles and Tim Myles (Amy), and brothers-in-law Dean Brown (Tricia), David Brown, and John Kenneally. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she loved dearly.
We are forever grateful for Dr. Erickson and the oncology team at Rumford Hospital, Dr. Rutstein, Andwell Home and Hospice, and Kristin Arsenault, NP, for their expert care and compassion, along with the many family and friends who provided support through this difficult journey.
The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, June 29 at 11 am at Black Mountain in Rumford, ME. Those wishing can donate to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in her memory. Arrangements by Thibault Remembrance Center 250 Penobscot St., Rumford, Maine 364-4366. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed at www.thibaultremembrancecenter.com .
