Bremerton, WA - Robert "Bugs" Frank Perry Sr., 94, of Bremerton, WA, passed away April 22, 2021 peacefully at home with his family at his side. He was born February 12, 1927 in Rumford, ME, the son of Frank and Rose (Boissonneault) Perry, the oldest of four children. "Bugs" grew up in Rumford attending Bisbee School and Stephens High School. In 1944, at age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the USN, he served in the Merchant Marines until enlisting in the USAF, serving from 1950 to 1954. Upon his discharge as a Staff Sargent, Robert returned to Rumford and worked briefly at the Oxford Paper Mill before joining the Rumford Police Department. On February 16, 1957, Robert married Rita Roy at St. John's Church. They raised three children and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. In 1960, Robert joined the United States Postal Service where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. Throughout his life, Robert had many different jobs including Call Man for the Rumford Fire Department, Oxford County Sheriff's Department, a Hunter Safety Instructor as well as a staff attendant for the S.G. Thibault Funeral Home. He also enjoyed volunteering at his church as a Lector and member of the Parish Council. For many years, he did odd jobs for the church, St. John's Cemetery and the VA Clinic in Rumford as well. "Bugs" was a life member of the American Legion Post 24 in Rumford, member and Past Commander of the DAV local chapter 21 and he was a dedicated 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a Past Grand Knight. Robert loved hunting, fishing, family gatherings, dancing, dining out, and playing card games, especially Cribbage.
He leaves behind his wife Rita Perry of Bremerton, WA; his son Robert Perry Jr. and his wife Silvia of Silverdale, WA, his daughter Rosemarie Perry and husband Michael of Bremerton, WA; grandchildren Brian Perry of Silverdale, WA, Jonathan Perry and wife Katie of Bremerton, WA, Jason Perry and wife Mckenzie of Seabeck, WA, Joshua Perry and husband Alyster Alcudia of Arlington, VA, and Nathan Perry and wife Alaina of Aberdeen, South Dakota; great-grandchildren Cole, Layla, Maria, Brooklyn and Aubrey; his sisters Pauline Davis of Waldoboro, ME, Doris Kimball of Lakeland, FL and Jeanne Rivard of Vero Beach, FL and many wonderful and thoughtful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a son Roger Perry. A graveside service will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Rumford on Monday August 16th at 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 16, 2021 at Holy Trinity Parish in Bremerton, WA with Military Honors. Memorial Donations in his memory can be made to the American Heart Association or the American cancer Society. Local arrangements are under the care and direction of The Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford 364-4366.
