Jeffrey T Gurney, 66 a resident of Peru Maine passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022 at his home with his wife Holly by his side. He was born October 5, 1955 in Rumford the son of Calvin and Viola (Theriault) Gurney. Jeff attended Rumford High School and was a 1973 graduate.
Jeff worked for 42 years in the Rumford Paper Mill as a Millwright and retired as a journeyman mechanic in 2017. In the 70’s he worked on paper machines 7,8 & 9 with his father Calvin. He was a third generation mill employee. Jeff formed many friendships over his years there.
He married the love of his life Holly in a private ceremony at their home. Jeff and Holly were best friends and soul mates. Holly was known by all to be Jeff’s One True Love.
Jeff was known for being a prankster, always loving to joke and tease family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. He traveled to many states and to Canada to hunt & fish. Pennsylvania & Montana were two of his favorites. He was a long time member of the Webb River Valley Sportsman Club. Jeff was contracted by the State of Maine, Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife for their Coyote control program. He and Holly wintered together in Colburn Gore, Maine. He loved hunting around his camp. He was also a member of the Oakdale Country Club for many years where he enjoyed golfing with his friends on a regular basis. There were many other golf courses that he left his divots on.
He is survived by his wife Holly Gurney and their Southern pup GG; a daughter Katie Waugh & husband Derrick; a grandson Bryson; a step-daughter Bonnie McKenna & husband Neil; two step-granddaughters Lilly and Sophie; a brother Glen Gurney & wife Deborah; nephew Nathan (Nate) Gurney wife Jessica & daughters Lilah & Lauren; Nephew Nick Gurney wife Allissa & daughters Clara & Eva; & sister Carrie Puiia and husband Stephen.
There will be no funeral services held, instead there will be a Celebration of Life by invitation only per Jeff’s wishes.
