She was born in Rumford on March 20, 1939, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Bernard.
Jean attended St. John’s School and graduated from Stephen’s High School Class of 1957.
She worked at the Corner Pharmacy and later as a pharmacy technician at the Rumford Hospital.
On September 3, 1960 she married Richard Doherty while he was a student at Farmington State College.
Jean enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, camping, baking cookies and collecting Presidential memorabilia and making albums of the presidents. She would send them to the White House asking if the President and the First Lady would autograph them. President Ford called her personally and asked her if she would donate the album that she made of him to the library; it is now on display at the Gerald Ford Presidential Library in Ann Arbor Michigan.
Jean will be remembered for her positive attitude and sense of humor all through her very long illness.
Surviving are her husband Richard; a sister Claire Perry and her husband Victor of East Bethel; sister’s in law Lisette Bernard of Westbrook, and Barbara Doherty of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her parents and her brother Richard.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Umbagog Dialysis Center and the nurses and aides of the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their loving care.
