Donald graduated from Dixfield High School in 1957. During his high school years he excelled at baseball, hockey and football and was a member of the last 6 man football team in the school’s history.
He began his papermaking career working as a spare for Oxford Paper Company Rumford and retired as a Superintendent of #15 paper machine in 1997. He and his wife Joan also operated Hebert’s Greenhouse for 25 years. A lifelong resident of Dixfield, Donnie was actively involved in the community. He was a former Little League coach, a member of the Lions Club, Elks and Sportsman’s Club, former President of the Poodunck Snowmobile Club, and pioneered the annual fundraising snowmobile ride-a-thon benefiting the OCARC.
During his retirement Donnie enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, fishing in N. Quebec with his son John, summers at his cottage in Prince Edward Island, following the Dirigo High School sports teams, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan M. Hebert, his children Anne M. Hebert (John P. Cooke), Deborah J. Stemle (Eric S. Stemle), Richard M. Hebert (Heidi Magons), John J. Hebert (Sandra L. Hebert), Donald F, Hebert, Jr. (Colleen Hebert), Bobbie L. Barron (Frank J. Barron), Wendy S. Low (Geoff Low) and Nicole A. Hebert ; grandchildren Michelle, Elizabeth, Marie, Joseph, Jane, Benjamin, Margaret, Maxwell, Grace and Vincent Hebert, Adam Stemle, Barry Campbell and Aidan Low.
He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Wilfred and Richard Hebert.
The family would like to thank Drs. Rick Marden, Nicolette Ericson and Sean Callender and the entire patient care team at Rumford Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion.
