Barbara Jean Richard, age 90, passed away peacefully Monday, December 12, 2022 at her home on Maple Street. She was born in Rumford on February 10,1932, the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Dora M. (O’Hearn) Lefebvre, and was educated in the Rumford schools.
Upon graduating Stephens High School in 1951, Barbara married the love of her life, Reginald J. Richard. They were married in Alexandria, VA not far from the Army base where Reggie was stationed. Barbara embraced military life with curiosity, excitement, and passion. For 21.5 years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband who was at the time serving in the U.S. Army. Barbara loved being around people and meeting new people of all cultures, and for many years volunteered with the Mother Theresa Missionary.
Barbara relocated back to Rumford in the early 1980’s to help her aging mother. She was employed as a waitress at the Chicken Coop in Mexico and worked there for 27 years until the restaurant closed permanently. Barbara then obtained employment as a cashier/hostess for Teena’s Restaurant where she remained for 9 years before she retired. Barbara enjoyed engaging with her coworkers and customers. She was always quick witted and loved to laugh.
Barbara was a faithful communicant of St. Athanasius/ St. John’s Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt, great- aunt, great- great- aunt, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed! Barbara treasured an active life in Rumford with her dear friends. Taking part in some Senior Center trips to the casinos, blueberry picking with friends, being part of the Tuesday Club, visiting friends at the Rumford Community Home, and especially going out to eat at Sam’s every Saturday evening after Mass with her great friends were just some of the activities she enjoyed.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Pauline M. Lefebvre of Bangor, ME; her nieces Debbie Brady(Sean) of Huntington Bay, NY, Linda Hafford(Paul) of North Berwick, ME, Donna Power(Brad) of Bangor, ME; her nephews John Lefebvre(Laura) of Groton, MA, Raymond Lefebvre(Christine) of Salem, MA; her cousins John O’Hearn of Augusta,ME and Michael O’Hearn of Bath,ME; her long time close friends Orella Poirier of Mexico,ME and Steve Chaisson of Roxbury, ME; and many more nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her brother John W. Lefebvre.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday, January 20 at the S G Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot Street, Rumford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday, January 21 at the St. Athanasius & St. John Church, 126 Maine Avenue, Rumford, Maine.
