Sue was born on October 23, 1934 in Crowley, Kentucky, the daughter to Russell and Cressie Mae Hicks.
Sue graduated from Central High School in Hickman County, Kentucky in 1952, where she made many life-long friends and was a cheerleader. During this time, she was also crowned Miss Hickman County in 1950. Shortly thereafter, she won the Hickman County Fairest of the Fair Beauty Contest in 1953. In those subsequent years, Sue remained in Clinton and was employed at the Atomic Energy Plant in Paducah, Kentucky.
As a young adult, Sue moved from her family home in Kentucky to Memphis, Tennessee. During her time there, she was enrolled in a modeling school and a private secretarial school. It is also there where she began her life-long career with the United States Postal Service. Included in her time in Memphis, she was fully involved as a leader for Youth for Christ with the First Evangelical Church.
It was at this time that she attended a Christian Singles Retreat, where she met Jerry Wayne Phillips, the love of her life. They were married October 1976 and shortly after they moved in to their new home in Roswell, Georgia.
Sue and Jerry loved each other devotedly and enjoyed sharing their faith and spent the rest of their lives together.
Sue loved attending church and studying prophetic scripture. She was a devout Christian and was fully committed to her relationship with God. Throughout the remainder of her life, she was active in the church. She attended Ladies of Faith Sunday School at First Baptist Church Atlanta. There was not a day that went by where Sue was not praying with Jesus and learning more about the Word.
With a lifelong thirst for knowledge, Sue took classes at Bryan College, Clayton State College, and Kennesaw State University throughout different seasons of her life.
Sue had a knack for making anyone smile and she touched countless lives. Many, if not all, would describe her as kind, funny, generous, and deeply caring. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her, and to know her was to love her.
The visitation for Sue Phillips will take place at 5 o’ clock in the afternoon on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Roswell Funeral Home and Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia. The funeral service to honor the life of Sue Phillips will be one o’ clock in the afternoon on the day following the visitation.
