Wife and mother first, she was devoted to her family. While taking care of her family and ailing mother, dying young of cancer, she founded and became president of a local branch for the American Cancer Society that we understand, is still in operation today, 50 years later. She worked for a number of years on our town’s Public School Board, helping direct and support the town's education system. And to earn additional money to help put her children through college, she became an insurance agent with MetLife, she built a nice career earning Presidents Club her first year that helped pay entirely for her children’s college education.
But her accomplishments paled in comparison to the giving, loving support of many; being there totally for many friends and relatives, her whole life, going through crisis and illness. She never put herself first, it was always for others.
Mom would share the story of when she met dad at the age of 13 and was practically love at first sight! They started dating when mom was 16 and married when mom turned 18 and they had a wonderful, nearly 60 year marriage, until dad passed 3+ years ago. Her family is truly blessed to have such a wonderful example of love, support and encouragement through our lives, seeing mom and dad, Nan & Pop.
Mom would always share that she had an unshakeable faith that there was a God, there was heaven and she knew to the bottom of her soul that she would see dad and her loved ones again. We know they’re together again. She is survived by her children; Mike, Ken & Pam (spouses; John Masinko and Jackie McAfee); her grandchildren; Justin, Jessi and Mac Masinko, Russell and Evan McAfee, Ryan, Jake and Meaghan McAfee, Maddie and Jackson Barkley; Jenna Applegate and great grandmother to Audrey and Tanner Applegate; her siblings; Geoff & Pat Maloney and sister in law, Kathy Maloney.
She will be missed by many but we know there’s a special place in heaven for her because we believe that she is what Jesus intended when He created Christianity…We will see her again.
