Stephen James Anthony Closs, aged 68, passed away on January 16, 2024. He was born on June 4, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jack M. Closs and Maylou Closs (Babcock). Stephen moved to Cobb County, Georgia, in 1973, where he built a life filled with love, resilience, and determination.
In 1975, Stephen married his first wife, and together they had two children. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a brain aneurysm, brain surgery, partial loss of eyesight and speech, and two divorces, Stephen remained devoted to his children. Refusing to claim any disability, he embraced entrepreneurship and became known for his remarkable achievements. He proudly claimed to have built and sold the most homes in the state of Georgia as an individual. Stephen's entrepreneurial spirit extended to crafting and selling hand-built doghouses to several Ace Hardware Stores throughout Metro Atlanta. He also constructed mailbox posts for many new subdivisions in Cobb County during the 1980s. His determination to provide for his family was unwavering, and he fought tirelessly for what he believed in.
Stephen's love for his children and family was unparalleled. He consistently emphasized the importance of family, considering it his top priority. He cherished spending time with his loved ones and imparting valuable life lessons. Stephen enjoyed playing the piano, whistling, admiring the stars from his deck, sailing his catamaran, and sharing his passion for "The Godfather." Through his many challenges and struggles, Stephen never allowed them to hinder his dedication to hard work and the love he had for his family.
Stephen will be deeply missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Lisa Closs, his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Ryan Davis, his sister, Kathy Byrnes, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Cheri Closs, his sister and brother-in-law, Cindie and Drew Meincke, his sister and brother-in-law, Sandy Closs and Brad Cook, as well as his grandchildren, Tristan Closs, Hallie Mills, Stephen Closs, and Joy Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Maylou Closs, and his wife, Carol Nix.
A private, family memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined. In honor of Stephen's memory, the family kindly requests donations to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Contributions can be made at https://give.bafound.org/site/Donation2?df_id=3372&3372.donation=form1&test=true.
