Sara Elna Platt Kane died Monday, September 9, 2024, at age 88. The third of four children, she is survived by her younger sister, Brenda (Willie Ray) McCall , as well as her two children, Robin (Thomas) Yackley and Brian Kane, three grandchildren, Aaron (Crystal), Nicole, and Claire (Lofn) Yackley, and great-grandchild, Kane Yackley.
Born on a farm in Headland, AL, to Hazel and Olon Platt, Sara moved to Atlanta in 1957 to become a teacher, where she met and married Edward Kane, Jr. She was a Girl Scout Leader from 1967-72, earned a Masters Degree in Education from GA State in 1973, and spent 25 years teaching remedial reading at Snapfinger Elementary until she retired to care for Ed before his passing in 1998. They lived in Decatur, GA, where she filled her days with gardening, reading, puzzles, animals, music, arts & crafts, cooking, swimming, classes with friends, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and spending time with her expanding family.
